Zoom-in and Camera Motion

As mentioned in Michal's lecture, zoom-in and camera motion toward the center of the scene have relatively similar motion fields; all points seems to move away from the center. The main difference is that the motion field of the zoom in is independent of the scene, while forward motion field depends on the scene's depth. This subtle difference is used to create the "dolly zoom" cinematic effect. A nice example from the movie "Jaws" can be found here.
